Building for Climate Change
As landscape architects, we work with natural resources daily. With climate change, we are busier than ever with a heightened awareness of the current state of resources and their limitations. Climate change has shown us physical changes and demands a proper response from us. The impacts of working with natural resources are positive, but we need to be smart about how we do it better. We cannot ignore the power of nature, its cycles, and its resources. No longer are we at the top of the pyramid – we are a part of a circular realm, and we need to act differently for the benefit of our planet and our existence. We need to respect and provide space for nature by understanding, restoring, preserving, and improving natural cycles, both above and below ground. We work with water- and soil- cycles as the primary resource for vegetation and habitats to survive. We design our landscapes as a natural maximization of biodiversity, nativeness, and habitats.
